Hey Baby, what do you feel like eating?

I've been really fortunate to avoid the dreaded morning sickness with this pregnancy. However, I did find that I became a really fussy eater. I'm not usually that fussy so I've found it quite hard to adjust and reason with my body. What's that? You feel like creamy chicken and mushroom fettuccine?.... or , sorry, you feel like vegetable soup? But it's the middle of Summer!

I've learnt to listen to my body, or rather, Lenny, as we like to call the bump. It's taken some practice. I've tried to force feed the lovely dinners Mr.D has prepared, but if Lenny doesn't want it, I know all about it. I can't explain the feeling, but it's like my body goes into total protest mode. I feel so bad sitting there staring at my lovely dinner and just not wanting to even take a bite.

So far I've discovered that Lenny absolutely despises the following;

Red Meat - I think it's more the smell of it cooking...
Asparagus  - Even when it touched the peas on my plate, I had to sacrifice the peas...and I LOVE peas.
B Vitamins - I try my best to take my B6 every day to try to help my skin to stretch and grow with the baby, but Lenny really objects to this one.

That's about all that Lenny despises so far, so pretty easy to work around I guess. In terms of the favourites of the moment;

Oranges - these have been a hit from the start. Fortunately there are some delicious, juicy organic oranges near our place. It's funny, my mum craved citrus when she was pregnant with my sister too.
Flavoured Milk - oh this stuff is amazing. Mr D got me 2Litres of chocolate primo the other day... I rationed it as much as I can, but I think my brother in law discovered it. I like to drink an Up and Go in the mornings too at the moment. I don't know if this will last. Lenny gets over stuff fast.... except for oranges.Did I mention oranges are delicious?
Cherry Tomatoes - these are the tastiest little morsels. I have them in the fridge at work. I must eat so many of these at the moment, they're like lollies.

Don't you think it's strange how something so small can dominate your body so much? I had no idea a little Lenny could be so powerful, sending messages to my brain... cherry tomatoes, cherry tomatoes, oranges oranges.

Yet one of the many discoveries I'm making on this journey.

I can't think of pictures to put with this blog... how about the view of my feet. I'm enjoying the sight of them while it lasts.

Easy Hair Up 101

I've been trying to come up with ways to disguise my "needs to be washed" hair. I find on about day 3 my hair isn't looking the sharpest, but I don't want to wash, dry and torture my hair, or waste valuable morning sleep time.

I came across this quite some time ago and didn't think it looked like me. The other day I tried it. I saw an elasticated headband on my dresser and remembered the little video I'd seen.

I was amazed at how easy this hairstyle was to do! This is going to be great when I'm feeling large, tired and unattractive, because I'll feel and look like I've made an effort. It literally takes under a minute and works best if you hair has a slight wave (or some two day old curls) and is on the verge of requiring a wash.

I had my hair in this twist in the photo I posted yesterday. That was after a whole day at the office, a dental appointment and then not even adjusted for a sunset photo. Two bobby pins to hold the band in place just behind my ears.... easy peasy. If it starts to come loose you can just twist it tighter again.

My awesome, honest  friend thought I was channelling Mrs Doubtfire. Hah! JUST what I was going for! I even had a cardigan on, so double channelling the old lady man nanny. My Mother-in-Law thought it looked quite nice, channelling 1940's style, and my mum thought it looked pretty. So mixed verdicts, but for a 30 second no fuss up do, I think I'll continue with it every so often.

and now the video...

The Stick of Life

I mentioned the other day on my facebook link that there would be some changes around here and the blog would be resurrected again,  and I know there are some loyal followers out there who've been refreshing their browser for the past few weeks wondering where I've disappeared to.

Well, mostly I've been enjoying Christmas, New Years and pondering my new directions for 2012.

You see things took a little turn in November last year, right after my birthday. Unbeknown to me, I had one more little birthday surprise waiting to be unwrapped....which I discovered at about 6.30pm on a Friday night, right after peeing on a magic little stick.  I can't actually explain in words what went through my head at the moment two very visible lines revealed themselves...my life just changed.

We're having a baby...

So although I've been rather fortunate so far with this pregnancy not to be hanging over a toilet bowl, I have been taking time out to rest, rather than blog and let the little baby grow... in between celebrating Christmas with our families and New Years holidays with our friends, oh and photograph some beautiful weddings, babies and pregnant bellies.

So... needless to say, IFLY will feature a little bit more of this wee baby as it grows, spins, jumps, punches and kicks it's way through the next 6 months.

I hope you enjoy sharing some of this journey with me.

Here's a 'hint of a belly' shot tonight at sunset. I may or may not be just really bloated after eating hot chips :)
